Habitat for Humanity 7 Rivers Maine (HFH7RM) is seeking a Sales Associate to aid with daily operations of the HFH7RM ReStore located at 126 Main Street in Topsham Maine.

TITLE: ReStore Sales Associate
STATUS: Non-Exempt / Part Time
REPORTS TO: ReStore Manager
HOURS: 25 per week (5 hours a day, 5 days a week, T-S)
COMPENSATION: $12.15/hour
BENEFITS: Simple IRA with 3% employer match

OVERVIEW: HFH7RM is a locally governed non-profit organization creating successful homeownership opportunities for families with limited incomes by building new sustainable housing, as well as repairing, weatherizing, and modifying existing homes. The HFH7RM service area includes all of Lincoln and Sagadahoc Counties, as well as the towns of Brunswick and Harpswell, Maine.

The Restore helps to keep items out of landfills through the sale of new and used donated, essential, quality building materials, hardware, appliances, and furniture to the community at large. The Restore is home to a large bustling, diverse group of dedicated community volunteers. Ultimately the ReStore is a vital fundraising program of HFH7RM, central to addressing local housing needs.

The ReStore Sales Associate will work with the ReStore Manager to aid with daily operations of the HFH7RM ReStore and provide a friendly and professional atmosphere for volunteers and customers. The ReStore Sales Associate must provide excellent customer service, conduct sales and merchandising, and may assume other duties as assigned by ReStore Manager. The position requires regular Saturday work hours. The ReStore Sales Associate is expected to perform all responsibilities in a professional and ethical manner to achieve a safe and positive customer experience, and ensure the continual improvement of the HFH7RM ReStore reputation, productivity, and profitability.

Primary Areas of Responsibility: 

  • Opening & closing procedures, including but not limited to:
  • Preparing point-of-sale system & counting cash drawer.
  • Daily cleaning procedures.
  • Returning overnight phone messages.
  • Will be required to operate point-of-sale system & phone system.
  • Ensure items are rotated, organized, and accurately priced.
  • Pre-screen donations for pick-up or drop-off.
  • Maintain backroom, office, and bathroom supplies.
  • Work closely with other employees and volunteers to accomplish daily/weekly goals & 
  • Work with customers to satisfy their needs while shopping at the ReStore.
  • Help maintain a clean & organized ReStore. 
  • Make sure store policies & procedures are followed.
  • Operate 16’ box truck, and hydraulic lift gate to pick up donations.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • High School graduate or GED recipient.
  • At least one year of paid retail sales experience, preferably in a home or building products industry
  • Any paid and/or volunteer Experience in non-profit, warehouse, or delivery industries
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal background and national sex offender registry screening.
  • A valid driver’s license and unrestricted driving record.
  • The ability to bend, reach and stand for long periods of time. The ability to repetitively lift and move 50lbs. The ability to climb a ladder.
  • The ability to work independently in an organized fashion, in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel.
  • Interpersonal and Communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills a must!
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that includes days, evenings, and Saturdays.

Interpersonal and communication skills are important as you will be working with employees, volunteers, and customers. Ultimately, the duties of a ReStore Sales Associate will be to ensure smooth operation of the ReStore, and provide a welcoming environment to keep our customers and volunteers happy.
