WE ARE HIRING: Restore Manager

TITLE: ReStore Manager
STATUS: Full Time Salary
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
HOURS: 40 hours per week (5 days a week)

OVERVIEW: The Restore Manager is accountable for the continual improvement of the HFH7RM ReStore reputation, productivity, and profitability. The ReStore Manager will lead a large team of paid and volunteer associates in daily operations of the HFH7RM ReStore. The ReStore Manager is responsible with associate training, tracking, and management. The Restore Manager must provide excellent customer and donor service, as well as conduct sales, merchandising, and manage all aspects of ReStore item acquisitions. The ReStore Manager may assume other duties as assigned by Executive Director. The position requires regular Saturday work hours. The ReStore Manager is expected to perform all responsibilities in a professional and ethical manner to achieve a safe, positive, and professional customer experience.

Primary Areas of Responsibility:

General Operations Management

  • Ensure the store is opened and ready for business by appointed hour
  • Return any overnight phone messages
  • Check store for overall cleanliness and assign clean up as necessary
  • Ensure stock is rotated, clean, accurately priced, arranged and scheduled for maximizing sales in store, online at events.
  • Prescreen and schedule donations for pick-up
  • Maintain adequate amounts of office supplies and order as needed
  • Maintain system for monitoring merchandise flow
  • Train, track and manage paid associates
  • Ensure Restore policies and procedures are followed

Volunteer Management

  • Prepare and monitor monthly volunteer schedule in coordination with the Development and Community Engagement Director
  • Ensure proper staffing and work flow coordination between pick up, receiving, and sales associate volunteers
  • Email/call reminders to next day’s volunteers
  • Train, track and manage volunteer associates in coordination with the Development and Community Engagement Director


  • Perform cash-up and bank deposits as necessary and report any discrepancies
  • Monitor cash drawer for proper change balances
  • Ensure proper product categories are being input
  • Monitor credit card processing for timeliness and accuracy
  • Create specials, deals, ReStore events, and customer incentives

Sales and Marketing

  • Work with IT leader to keep website current
  • Ensure merchandise pricing is clear and visible
  • Keep interior store signage current and relevant
  • Develop and maintain a current mailing list of contractors, retirement communities, real estate brokers and retail establishments (furniture, appliance) for possible donation opportunities. Communicate with above list at least on a bi-annual to weekly basis
  • Work with staff to develop advertising and a sales plan for special community events.
  • Develop and maintain a ReStore Email Newsletter promoting sales and other special events

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School graduate or GED recipient.
  • At least one year of paid retail sales experience, preferably in a home or building products industry, and preferably as a Manager.
  • Any experience in managing volunteers.
  • Any paid and/or volunteer experience in non-profit, warehouse, or delivery industries
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal background and national sex offender registry screening.
  • A valid driver’s license and unrestricted driving record
  • Must be able to operate a 16’ box truck with a hydraulic lift gate
  • The ability to bend, reach and stand for long periods of time. The ability to repetitively lift and move 50lbs. The ability to climb a ladder.
  • The ability to work as a team leader in an organized fashion, in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in MS Word and MS Excel (QuickBooks experience a plus)
  • Interpersonal and communication skills are vital.
  • Excellent customer service skills a must
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that must include Saturdays.

WE ARE HIRING: Restore Warehouse and Truck Associate

Title:  ReStore Warehouse and Truck Associate
Status: Non-Exempt, Full Time and Part Time positions available
Hours:  Tuesday – Saturday, 35 – 40 hours FT or up to 25 hours PT
Reports to: ReStore Manager, ReStore Assistant Manager


The ReStore Warehouse and Truck Associate is responsible for receiving and processing the material donations to Habitat ReStore. In collaboration with the Store Manager, Assistant Manager, other staff and volunteers, perform ReStore operations support as needed in a rapidly changing and adaptable work environment.  Excellent organizational, telephone, and internal/external customer service skills are critical. Communicate the Habitat for Humanity mission and the ReStore role. A valid Maine driver’s license without violation restrictions is required. This is a job for a person with demonstrated energy and initiative.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Check volunteer schedule and prepare volunteer assignments for the day.
  • Coordinate with ReStore Manager/ Asst. Mgr. and donors to screen donations over the phone, online/email, during pick-ups and donor drop-offs.
  • Schedule donations for pickup.
  • Complete necessary donation paperwork.
  • Carefully transport items to avoid any damage, operating box truck up to 25’ size.
  • Merchandise stock and make ready for sales floor:  clean, test, repair, price.
  • Work with management to price and bring stock to floor.
  • Continually check warehouse/prep area/external service area for overall cleanliness and organization, assign/perform clean-up as necessary.
  • Ensure all unusable stock/items are recycled, or disposed of properly (recycle, landfill, dumpster) and in a timely manner.
  • Maintain adequate amounts of warehouse supplies. Order supplies with management as needed.

Volunteer Engagement:

  • Build relationships with good listening, a smile, and understanding.
  • Post daily list of ongoing warehouse projects; prioritize and assign to volunteers.
  • Train new volunteers to be familiar with the Volunteer Handbook, safety, and ReStore policies and procedures.
  • Work with a diverse group of volunteers.

Vehicle and Building Maintenance:

  • Ensure the ReStore truck has all required documentation: state inspection, insurance card, gas card, and registration.  Communicate any maintenance needs to Manager.
  • Keep ReStore truck stocked with all required equipment for pickup appointments: hand trucks, tie down straps, basic hand tools, and shovel and sand during winter months.
  • Monitor and enforce use of seatbelts when truck is underway.
  • Routine maintenance on Habitat building as needed, including snow removal.
  • Clean and organize indoor/outdoor delivery area, and prep/display areas as necessary.
  • Keep work area and tool supply storage organized and easily accessible.

Reporting and Communication:

  • Keep ReStore Manager informed of staff, operational and safety matters.
  • Collaborate regularly with Manager and Assistant Manager on procedures.
  • Inform Manager/Asst. Manager of any donor service issues.
  • Inform Manager/Asst. Manager of any staff/volunteer issues.

Required Skills/Experience/Physical Requirements:

  • Must be self-motivated, reliable and exercise sound judgment.
  • Be able to engage volunteers in a positive manner.
  • Must have the desire to provide superior customer service.
  • Must hold and maintain a current Maine driver’s license without violation restrictions. Operate a box truck with liftgate.
  • Must have basic computer skills for Microsoft Office.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to lift; up to 150lbs. with assistance; up to 50lbs. solo and overhead. Work may require climbing ladders, considerable standing, bending, kneeling, climbing in and out of truck, and reaching.
  • Must possess knowledge of basic building maintenance and the ability to use light power and hand tools.
